4000 words

I've hit my all-time high score today. I was thunderstruck with motivation this afternoon and ended up handwriting 2000 words, taking it home, and finishing up the first draft of my short story. I feel like I've hit all the major beats and I know that there will be a LOT of tweaking and crafting left to do. But at least I have a block of clay in front of me instead of cups of dirt and water. Perhaps after a few more rounds of tweaking, refinement, and alpha readers, it might be suitable for submission somewhere? I sure hope so. Even if it doesn't end up being that great, at least I will have finished a short story. My first short story, ever. And there's a lot to be said for that. They always say that to be a writer, you have to write. Even though you end up throwing it away, it's not wasted.
